International flavor

Since our internet connects through international servers, sometimes I have German instructions popping up like tastaturkurze: drucken Sie Strg zusammen mit.

We are part of the coalition here so we also have representatives from Slovenia and Spain. Italy is in charge of western Afghanistan so we have many of them here. They even started a pizzeria on base. Not the best pizza unfortunately. We will have some Mongolians here shortly as well.

Ironically, the most common ethnic food in the chow hall has been Mexican. Go figure.

Mongolia has troops they can send out? Huh - I looked it up, and it looks like they do send tiny contingents on peacekeeping missions here and there. Who'd have guessed it.

I bet they'd be interesting to talk to, if you can find a way to communicate.

Do the Italians speak English well?

They can communicate somewhat but not great. I asked an interpreter today about how hard it might be to find Afghans who can speak Spanish, Italian or Slovenian. He said that most other countries communicate in English!

Hi. I found your blog through a link on another blogger's site. What interesting reading! I'm putting a link on my site as well so my friends can follow your journey. I support our troops and applaud you for the work you are doing.

Hello Cheryl. Enjoy! I joined the Navy after a 26 year career in family practice and teaching at the med school in Detroit. Quite a new adventure. What other blog provided the link?

Wow! The Navy is sure blessed to have you on their roll with all your experience. I'll bet you have a "few" stories to tell from your earlier careers!

I found you at Wandering Wondering Gypsy.
