Return of the Mongolians

A contingent from Mongolia has arrived to help out. More irony. Genghis Khan and the Mongolians invaded about 800 years ago (along with about everyone else in history). However, this time no pillaging and burning; rather, building and helping. Welcome!

Are they part of the UN peace-keeping mission?

Afghanistan's coalition is actually under NATO. There have been discussions about converting it to a UN mission (Mongolia is part of the UN but not NATO). I don't know all the ramifications. I believe the US has more clout in NATO than the UN, but the US will do the heavy lifting no matter what flag flies in Kabul. If they switched to the UN, I would get a UN medal rather than a NATO medal at the end of the tour. I like the NATO medal color scheme better.
