The photo shows some of the medical texts donated by home commands. We presented them to the hospital this past week, to the delight of the docs. Naturally, all were in English, which many of the docs cannot read. It helps.
Our pharmacist and administrative person have straightened out some of the equipment and supply issues, so the hospital can function better.
The other family doc here and I have worked with our counterparts to create a lecture schedule for twice-weekly medical topics. We will help them give one per week, and we (the Navy docs) will give the other each week. I am working on a pain management lecture for two weeks from now. Simple, straightforward, and to be translated into Dari by one of the 'terps.
The Dari word for Doctor is "Daktar". This term is also used for medics and nurses. Nurses here also include lab and X-ray techs. Slightly confusing. Also, some of the "doctors" are "low doctors", meaning they are practicing medicine but haven't quite started medical school yet. The needs are so great here that everyone is able to contribute.
