The End Is In Sight

We graduate on the 9th and start a 2-week “family readiness period” the day after. All of us are quite eager to get on with it and be done with training (as Bill Murray said in Stripes: “Aaaaarmy training, sir!"), the hot weather and body armor. Yes, it will be hot in A-stan (100+ mid summer) but very low humidity. We will rarely, if ever, need our armor; we will take it with us however. I will not miss rooming with 34 others or sharing the facilities with 70 others (hence, 2 upper respiratory viruses, my very first case of pink eye in my life and 2 bouts of stomach bugs).

The Navy teams in our class put on a barbecue last night with lots of beer (went through 3 full size kegs) lots of good food. We invited our Army instructors and several brought their families with them.

Just a few more training evolutions this week with time for clean up and packing our gear. After the 2 weeks off, we return and will finally start our journey to southwest Asia. I received the assignment in early April and we are almost, finally, at last, ready to go.

Today's Dari is 1, 2, 3: yak, doo, say.
